We had an awesome training session tonight. 8 fearless DMs in training took the plunge, and came out to run some game sessions. We spent an hour or so discussing tips, strategies, what scared us the most about DMing, what we want to do better at, and more. At the end, I handed out random 1 page scenarios I had made, broke into 2 groups of 4, and had people taking turns running the session. We got to see what worked, what didn’t, flex our creative muscles, and ended up learning quite a bit.
I’m excited to do another one, everyone seemed gung ho for it. And some people seemed ready to take on a table during our tuesday night games! And some have DMd before, but are ready to be thrown back into the mix. Which is sweet, we definitely want more DMs, which is the ultimate goal, without people having to DM every single session weekly (unless they love it like I do!)
Next time, I think I will have the DMs prep their own 1 room scenario, and we will drift from room to room with each person taking turns describing and playing out their scenario. That will give some insight into the creative side of things!
